i am very glad to know that a lot of people are willing to learn tai language. it is our duty to preserve our language and culture. i hope that no. of tai language learners will increase soon and people will understand its value. After all , it is our own.

To spread and make tai language popular, we think this institution should also make CALENDERS in tai language with english translation ,small leaflet books, new year card, birthday card in tai language. PEOPLE SHOULD SPEAK THOSE POPULAR AND SWEET SENTENCES OF TAI LANGUAGE.Also common sentences, how r u? where r u? etc. . Once these words is implanted in people’s minds, tai language will again come to our tongue automatically. who knows , tai language may again be our speaking language.

Tai language seems dead like Latin or Greek… But let us try to make it alive again. The Ahoms are alive.. we can definetly awake our dormant language.

@Pallavi – For admission into the tai-ahom language class, you need to visit the institute. You will get all the required information there.Classes are held every saturday.People ranging from various age-groups are learning Tai-Ahom language in the Institute.Do let me know if you require more into-depth details.
@Rajan Barua-Tai language is divided into six various types-1.Ahom, 2.Aiton, 3.Khamti, 4.Phake, 5.Khamyang and 6.Turung. If you are interested in learning Tai Ahom language, then there are no correspondence courses for Tai-Ahom language. But,the good news is that Dr.Stephen Morey from La Trobe University have recently launched an online Ahom dictionary, through which you will be able to understand the meaning. The link of that site is available in the article “Online Tai Ahom DIctionary” of this site. Apart from that, you can check the posts “Tai Ahom Language Class”in the FORUM secton of this site, where I’ve uploaded the list of tai-ahom words along with the assamese meanings.Pls do visit the forum section of the site for regular updates from 23rd jan,2010.

I have today received a copy of Studies of Assam History in Thai language from Professor
Chatthip Nartsupha. He has authored in association with Professor Renu Wichasin. Book has
exhaustive bibiliography wherefrom I can make out that all available sources of Ahom history
have received their attention. There are photographs of the historians of Assam whom they
met and also of Sir Edward Gait, Dr. Suryya KLumar Bhuyajn and Dr Padmeswart Gogoi
150 pages book include 12 pages of photographs. Anyone interested to look at the book can
contact me at 30 Dr S K Bhuyan Road, Guwahati, 781001. I hope that I shall be able to
meet someone who can read Thai. This is perhaps first time
Ahom History has been written in present days in Thai and it will reunite the age old
relationship between two neighbours. I am looking forward to the day when the book
will be translated into English and Assamese. A lady from Dibrugarh called me referring
about the book, she can note the foregoing.

Good thing to get started to know about the Tai Ahom period of 1228 AD to 1826AD. The Tai writings should be translated to other languages ans especially in English, Latin. Seek funds from pilantropic bodies,ICCR,UNESCO, Govt. agencies. Hope for the best
